English Language Development
The ELD (English Language Development) program supports multilingual learners as they develop the academic English needed to be career and college ready. Our program develops English skills in the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The students in our program typically have first learned a language other than English; and come from a home where the primary language spoken is a language other than English. However, students who speak another primary language other than English are not automatically enrolled in the ELD program, but they may be screened to see if they qualify for English learner service. The EL students at Highland represent a wide variety of language groups.
